Pastor Jon Myers came to Joy Lutheran in January 2017.  Pastor Jon is originally from Maryland and is a graduate of Duke University and Princeton Theological Seminary.  He grew up sailing on the Chesapeake with his family and helping them grow Douglas Firs as Christmas trees.  Pastor Jon comes from a family of ELCA pastors in the Baltimore area.  He spent many summers working at church camps in North Carolina and Ohio, and was deeply involved in campus ministry at both Duke and Ohio State.  He enjoys playing the guitar.  He has been drawn to Tulsa by the people, the unique opportunities for ministry with the people there, and the clear sense that the Holy Spirit is drawing he and his wife Sister Jennifer Myers to Joy Lutheran Church.

Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries -- Alicia Urban joined Joy Lutheran Church on June 1, 2009 part-time as our first Director of Children's Ministries.  In 2013 she became full time Director of Children, Youth and Familiy Ministries.

Although she was born in Texas, she spent most of her life in the Tulsa area. She left briefly to attend college at The University of Kansas, where she earned a bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Life, specializing in Child Care and Development. She then moved back to Tulsa and attended OU-Tulsa to earn a Masters in Human Relations. She has a post-graduate certificate in Education from Northcentral University.

Alicia has held many positions in the field of Education, including teaching young children, leading parenting classes, writing curriculum, and teaching Early Childhood Education at the college level.

Alicia has two wonderful children.

Sister Jennie Myers is part time Director of Discipleship at Joy Lutheran church beginning in January 2017.  Sister Jennie was born in Oregon and grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and suburban Detroit. She is a graduate of The Ohio State University and Luther Seminary, and has served as a children, youth and family minister and a parish administrator in suburban Philadelphia and in southwestern Virginia.  Sister Jeanie has been a sister in the ELCA Deaconess Community since 2008.  She would be happy to share with you about what it means to be in service as a deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She has been drawn to the unique opportunities for ministry, service and outreach with the people at Joy Lutheran.  Along with Pastor Jon, Sister Jennifer feels the call of the Holy Spirit to Joy Lutheran and the greater Tulsa area.  Sister Jennie and Pastor Jon Myers have two children.  Email:


Office Manager - Sarah Smith   Sara is as we say, (from Lutherland, specifically northern Wisconsin) as of course are many from this congregation. She has been married for 39 years, with 3 adult sons, 1 lovely daughter-in-law and 2 rambunctious grandsons that she adores. Sarah has 2 rescue dogs that she and her husband love even though they shed hair constantly.

She has been a member of First Lutheran Church since 1979 and has taught Sunday School, VBS, and been on Altar Guild since joining First Lutheran. She loves to walk, read, and love BBC television, especially detective and historical fiction. She is honored to be on staff at Joy Lutheran and has been so since 2016.


Dr. Alice Brook

Director of Music Ministries/Organist  --  Dr. Alice Brook is the Director of Brook Fine Arts Academy, 81st & Harvard, where instruction for most instruments is offered plus sign language, band workshops, dance classes and musical theatre camps. She is also the accompanist for Jenks HS Vocal Music, teaches privately and accompanies and performs in the regional area.

Dr. Brook holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music & Dance and received the coveted Graduate Award for outstanding performance, academic achievement and service. She received a Master of Music degree with full stipend from the University of Tulsa and a Bachelor of Music degree from IL Wesleyan University. Dr. Brook also studied at the Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music.
Dr. Brook has taught at UMKC, Millikin University (IL) and TCC, is a nationally certified teacher of piano and theory and is a member of MTNA, OMTA, TAMTA, Hyechka & SAI.

Dr. Brook is married to Paul, and enjoys her dogs and riding her motorcycle.
